Toronto Maple Leafs name Jim Hiller as head coach
- On Wednesday, the Maple Leafs announced Jim Hiller as the franchise's 41st head coach, replacing Craig Berube. General manager John Chayka called Hiller an "experienced coach" with "a strong understanding of what it takes to win in today's NHL."
- The appointment follows a five-week search after Chayka fired Berube. A list of 55 candidates was whittled down to 20, with Hiller's name notably absent from recent speculation about the vacancy.
- Hiller joins Toronto after coaching the Los Angeles Kings for 175 games, compiling a 93-58-24 record. The team reached the playoffs in both of his three seasons as head coach.
- Previously, Hiller served as an assistant coach under Mike Babcock with the Maple Leafs from 2015 to 2019. He also held assistant roles with the Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders.
- In a statement, Hiller called the organization "special" with "passionate fans" and said he is "looking forward to getting to work with our players and staff." He aims to help the franchise reach its full potential.
