- The city has recorded 93 fires involving lithium-ion batteries in 2026, reflecting a 200 per cent increase since 2022. Two people were assessed for minor smoke inhalation during Sunday's first incident.
- Jessop stated that firefighters are entering increasingly dangerous, unpredictable situations with fires that are more intense and toxic than previously encountered. He is calling for federal and provincial governments to implement regulatory changes and amendments to the fire code.
