Israeli Hostage Couple Reunites After Two Years of Hamas Captivity in Gaza
More than 20 hostages, including Avinatan Or, were freed in a prisoner exchange after over two years of captivity during the Hamas attack on Israel in 2023.
- On Monday, Avinatan Or, 32, was freed after 738 days in Hamas captivity and reunited with Noa Argamani, 28, in a ceasefire deal brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump.
- At the Nova music festival on Oct. 7, 2023, Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or were seized in an assault that killed more than 360 people and took about 40 hostage.
- Argamani, after eight months in Gaza, was rescued by Israeli special forces on June 8, 2024 during Operation Arnon, while Or spent 738 days in isolation in central Gaza, losing 30% to 40% of his body weight.
- Families and the IDF shared images of emotional reunions after Israel released about 2,000 Palestinian detainees, including 1,718 held since Oct. 7, 2023, and 250 prisoners serving life sentences.
- Advocates and officials said, `Being here today is a miracle, but I m here to tell you we have no time`, Argamani told the U.N. Security Council, as family statements emphasized the story isn't over until all hostages return.
