3.6-Mile Stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard to Close because of Possible Mudslides
Topanga Canyon Boulevard reopens with a 25-mph speed limit and restrictions; fines may double in work zones to ensure safety during ongoing recovery efforts, Caltrans said.
- Yesterday, Caltrans reopened a 3.6-mile stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive, with State Route 27 scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m., according to Caltrans.
- Caltrans closed the route preemptively on Tuesday, Dec. 30 because forecasters predicted rain and saturated hills, and crews removed mud and debris flows near post mile 1.8 while continuing Palisades Fire recovery efforts.
- Drivers must obey a 25-mph speed limit in the work zone, with parking, stopping and pedestrian access prohibited and possible doubled fines and a midnight to 5 a.m. closure window, Caltrans said.
- Caltrans warned another storm could force reclosure at midnight Saturday on Topanga Canyon Boulevard and said standby crews will monitor PCH from Sunset Boulevard to Carbon Beach Terrace.
- Motorists are urged to use extra caution and expect delays as forecasters say one storm could create mess in Southern California this weekend, and fire officials monitor burn-scar areas for warnings starting Saturday at 10 a.m.
