Abbott calls for restoring respect in immigration enforcement and highlights Texas leads in removals with fewer protests than other states, urging a new ICE approach.
- On Monday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott rebuked the White House on the Mark Davis Show, saying `They, being the White House, need to recalibrate on what needs to be done to make sure that respect is going to be reinstilled`, he said.
- Abbott has long worked hand in hand with President Donald Trump on immigration, providing Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement broad state support and creating Operation Lone Star, while Texas Republicans share his concern that ICE should shift strategies.
- Highlighting state data, Abbott noted Texas' removal record and local calm, saying `Texas actually ranks number one for ICE removals and yet we don't have fighting and protest like that...` while anti-ICE protesters demonstrated in Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas.
- Assigning blame and citing deaths, Abbott said Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey 'tried to incite violence', while former Republican lawmaker Jerry Patterson urged changes at Immigration and Customs Enforcement after Alex Pretti's death.
- Calling for a strategic shift, Abbott distanced himself from recent ICE operations and said the White House is 'working on a game plan' to recalibrate enforcement and refocus on removals.
