Top Democrat is investigating Jared Kushner’s financial investments after CNN report
Garcia wants details on whether Affinity Partners profited from Middle East investments tied to Israel’s defense supply chain, after CNN found Phoenix Financial backed nine companies.
On Monday, Rep. Robert Garcia, ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter to Jared Kushner's investment firm, Affinity Partners, requesting details on Middle East business dealings to assess whether financial gains compromised American safety and security.
The inquiry follows a CNN investigation last week that revealed Affinity Partners holds a significant stake in Phoenix Financial, a Tel Aviv-based firm investing hundreds of millions of dollars into Elbit Systems and other Israeli military equipment suppliers.
Kushner's attorney dismissed the criticism, noting Garcia's pension funds hold stock in the same companies; Garcia's spokesperson countered that the congressman cannot control or opt out of those investments like millions of other public employees.
Democrats have long demanded answers regarding "apparent influence peddling and quid pro quo deals," citing a $2 billion investment Kushner secured from Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund in 2021 during his government work.
House Democrats could launch an official investigation into President Donald Trump's family business dealings only if they retake the majority in November midterm elections, as current minority party requests remain voluntary and lack subpoena authority.
