Friedrich Merz wants to replace Russian oil with Kazakh oil, which was announced by the German Chancellor at a joint press conference with the President of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Jomart Tokaev, in Berlin.
Friedrich Merz affirms the interest in Kazakh oil "as a substitute for the oil we no longer obtain from Russia". Kazakhstan pledges further deliveries.
As a replacement for deliveries from Russia, more oil will flow from Kazakhstan to the Federal Republic of Germany in the future. However, Chancellor Merz and Kazakh President Tokayev hold back with details for the time being.
