The Maiquetía terminal will initially operate with modular metal structures capable of serving 2,168 passengers. The airport authorities recommended that passengers adopt new time limits for their journeys.
Commercial flights were diverted to other air terminals with lower operating capacity in Valencia, Maracay and Barquisimeto, west of Caracas, as well as Barcelona, east.
Almost 10 weeks after the two devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela, the country's main airport partially resumed its commercial operations on Tuesday.
