- In 2023, the Senate investigated the incarceration of 250 Nigerians in Ethiopia after public outrage; reports describe poor conditions including overcrowded facilities, inadequate food, and limited medical care for inmates.
- Four Nigerian prisoners died while awaiting final ratification, as negotiations faced significant delays since Last October due to Ethiopian government sluggishness, Mrs Odumegwu-Ojukwu noted in a statement.
