The Cabinet has appointed three former ministers as Minister of State. This is an honorary title for statesmen who have rendered exceptional service to the Netherlands and who can advise the Cabinet and the King in a small group. With their appointment, there are now nine Ministers of State.
Former ministers Frans Timmermans (PvdA, now Pro), Thom de Graaf (D66), and Johan Remkes (VVD) have been appointed Minister of State. This is an honorary title that the government awards in exceptional cases. A Minister of State is sometimes asked for advice on political issues.
