Timberwolves add power forward to roster
Trey Lyles averaged nearly 13 points in Europe last season and gives Minnesota another veteran forward as it continues filling roster spots.
On Friday, the Timberwolves agreed to a one-year deal with veteran forward Trey Lyles, a signing first reported by The Athletic.
A 10-year NBA veteran, Lyles spent last season in Europe playing for Real Madrid, averaging nearly 13 points per game. He previously played two years for Wolves basketball boss Tim Connelly in Denver.
The 30-year-old Lyles is Minnesota's 12th agreed-to signing, with the count expected to reach 13 when the Wolves ink No. overall pick Isaiah Evans.
While the organization previously reported interest in stars like LeBron James and Rui Hachimura, this under-the-radar move represents a more modest acquisition than fans anticipated.
Adding Lyles provides the Timberwolves with their first legitimate power forward, addressing a positional gap in the frontcourt rotation.
