Tim Fleming wins Republican nomination for secretary of state in Georgia
The Associated Press called the race after Georgia voters chose between two former state legislators for the office overseeing elections and business licensing.
Rep Tim Fleming won the Republican nomination for Georgia secretary of state, defeating Vernon Jones, while Judge Penny Brown Reynolds secured the Democratic nomination over Fulton County Commissioner Dana Barrett.
Fleming previously served as chief of staff to Gov Brian Kemp and as a Newton County Commissioner before representing the 114th District in the Georgia House, where he focused on election security legislation.
Reynolds, a former Fulton County judge and Biden administration official, serves as a professor at the Georgia State University Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and hosted the reality series Family Court with Judge Penny.
As secretary of state, the winner will oversee business formations, professional licensing, and certifications while managing Georgia's election system and official records.
Fleming and Reynolds will advance to the general election to compete for the secretary of state seat, with Reynolds pledging to prioritize service for all Georgians and Fleming emphasizing his legislative record on elections.
