TikTok creator jailed for killing woman by dangerous driving
Leigh Sutherland caused a fatal crash while driving with defective brakes and speeding, killing a 77-year-old and injuring a child; he was also disqualified from driving for 13½ years.
- On January 9, 2026, Leigh Sutherland was sentenced to nine years at Glasgow High Court after his October 2025 trial convicted him of causing death by dangerous driving.
- Investigators found the car's braking system and battery were unsafe as Sutherland was speeding on June 15, 2023 in a Ford Mondeo and had a six-month driving ban one week before the collision.
- At around 3.05pm, Sutherland smashed into a Peugeot 108 driven by 77-year-old Margaret Allan while speeding at least 44mph in a 40mph zone, then tried to walk away and blamed the victim.
- Judge Tom Hughes told Sutherland he took no responsibility, while Margaret Allan's family described their catastrophic loss and Sergeant Andy Coutts said the court's decision may bring some peace.
- While on remand, Leigh Sutherland, TikTok creator, posted videos about the crash and claimed legal experience while role-playing as an officer, behaviour the judge called totally inappropriate.
