Tigers pitcher Casey Mize goes on injured list due to right adductor strain
Mize is 2-3 with a 2.27 ERA in nine starts as Detroit also activated Beau Briske and moved Brant Hurter to the 60-day IL.
On Friday, the Detroit Tigers placed starting pitcher Casey Mize on the 15-day injured list with right adductor inflammation, retroactive to Thursday, before their series opener against the Chicago White Sox.
Mize previously missed nearly three weeks with the same injury from April 29 to May 16, marking a recurring problem for the 29-year-old right-hander this season.
To replace Mize, the Tigers activated right-handed reliever Beau Brieske from the 60-day injured list while transferring left-handed reliever Brant Hurter to the 60-day injured list to open a roster spot.
The Tigers must secure a starter for Monday's road game against the Tampa Bay Rays, with right-hander Ty Madden a potential candidate after becoming eligible to return from the injured list Sunday.
Bullpen depth remains strained as closer Kenley Jansen continues recovery from pelvic inflammation; manager AJ Hinch said he is "encouraged" that Jansen hasn't stopped throwing.
