Private Spaceflight Ends with a Pacific Splashdown for Astronauts From India, Poland and Hungary
INDIA, JUL 16 – The mission completed over 60 international experiments during an 18-day ISS stay, marking India's first astronaut aboard the station and supporting future spaceflight programs.
- On July 14, 2025, the Axiom-4 crew undocked their SpaceX Dragon capsule Grace from the International Space Station and began the return journey to Earth.
- The mission launched nearly three weeks earlier on June 26 from Kennedy Space Center and included astronauts from India, Poland, and Hungary on their first spaceflight.
- The crew of four, commanded by former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, conducted over 60 scientific experiments while celebrating their cultural heritage aboard the space station for 18 days.
- Following its undocking at 7:15 a.m. EDT, Grace executed a series of automated deorbit maneuvers and is scheduled to return to Earth by landing in the waters off California approximately 22.5 hours later, marking SpaceX’s second recovery mission on the West Coast.
- The successful mission demonstrates ongoing commercial spaceflight progress amid NASA's plan to retire the ISS by 2030 and supports private companies developing future orbital platforms.
