Three spontaneous fires in Cherryville in the last week put out by residents
Twenty-four residents completed wildfire safety training days before neighbours and the Cherryville Fire Watch Society put out the third fire in a week.
- On Tuesday, May 5, Cherryville residents successfully extinguished a wildfire that sparked just off Sugar Lake Road, preventing further spread in the rural community.
- Rider Ventures Ltd. hosted 24 residents for the ninth annual S100 wildfire training on Saturday, May 2, covering prescribed burning, trench digging, and hose deployment.
- According to the Regional District of North Okanagan , this was the third spontaneous fire in one week, following a house fire and barn fire earlier.
- Area Director Jim Johnson praised Cherryville's "dedication to protecting the North Okanagan against wildfires," calling the success a result of years of volunteer hard work.
- Since 2018, the community has developed a 2,000-square-foot Fire Watch Building, initiated by the Cherry Ridge Management Committee and operated by the Fire Watch Society.
