- Conversely, the Atlantic basin remains notably quiet under unfavorable wind shear conditions, producing just five named storms with an ACE index of 4.4—about 9 percent of normal as of September 3.

The Pacific is experiencing an unusual meteorological episode: three tropical systems, Lowell, Karina and Marie, are active at the same time. Such a phenomenon has not been recorded since 2015, when hurricane Kilo, Ignacio and Jimena formed simultaneously in this area.
