Police and paramedics injured by van while responding to crash scene
Three men were arrested for suspected dangerous driving and drug or alcohol impairment after a van hit two paramedics and three off-duty officers assisting at an earlier crash, Essex Police said.
- On January 10 at about 12.15am on the A130, paramedics and off-duty police officers stopped to help a crashed white Nissan X-Trail but were struck in a second collision involving a white Ford Transit van.
- Emergency services closed the A130 between Bonville's Roundabout and Sadlers Farm from about 12.38am, with part of the road closed in both directions and diversions at the Rayleigh Spur roundabout.
- Five emergency service personnel were injured about 300 metres south of the junction, with one paramedic and one police officer in hospital with serious injuries.
- Three men have been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and related offences, with the Serious Collision Investigation Unit launching an inquiry and police appealing for dashcam footage.
- Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin said the force is supporting injured workers and asked the public not to speculate while investigators establish the facts.
