Thousands without power, evacuations as wild weather hammers lower North Island
MetService's highest-level red rain warning covers multiple North Island districts with forecasts of up to 180mm rain and widespread power outages affecting over 30,000 properties.

- Swells of up to 7 metres remain along the coast from Cape to Turakirae Head until midday Monday, while the storm is forecast to move toward the South Island on Tuesday.
