Many Lebanese from the country's south hope the U.S.-Iran deal marks the start of better times but their hopes are mixed with skepticism — there had been too many ceasefires that had failed to halt the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
Adnan Kaour returned Thursday to check his home in the coastal city of Tyre, in southern Lebanon — formerly known as an idyllic holiday destination — just a week after Israel issued warnings for all its residents to evacuate.
Thousands of Lebanese moved south of the country after the ceasefire was announced, but many end up returning to Beirut on the same day. Direct to CNN Portugal journalist João Sousa explained that Israeli military presence, road damage, lack of telecommunications and the destruction of homes and services make it difficult for families to stay in the region.
