Rugby league fans in Wakefield for bus parade
The club beat Warrington Wolves 23-10 for its first title since 1968, drawing thousands to an open-top bus parade and civic reception.
Thousands of Wakefield Trinity fans lined city streets yesterday for an open-top bus parade celebrating the club's Super League Grand Final victory, with buses traveling from Belle Vue to Wakefield Town Hall for a civic reception.
Trinity secured its first title since 1968 on Saturday, defeating Warrington Wolves 23-10 at Old Trafford in what was the first proper final for 50 years.
Fullback Max Jowitt, who made 188 appearances for Trinity, called the parade an "unbelievable" experience, while Johnstone earned the Rob Burrow Award for an outstanding individual display.
Supporters gathered at Wakefield Exchange on Union Street for a ticketed celebration, where attendees like Melanie brought her 85-year-old neighbour Margaret to join the festivities.
Johnstone said, "I don't want to get ahead of myself but we've got some good people coming in next year and have got a good structure," signaling ambitions for sustained success.
