Thomas 'Bomber' Kavanagh: Kinahan crime boss ordered to pay back £1.1m

UNITED KINGDOM, JUL 25 – Thomas Kavanagh must repay £1.1 million in recoverable assets within three months or serve 12 additional years, following convictions for leading a major drug smuggling operation.

  • On Friday at Ipswich Crown Court, the CPS said Kavanagh was ordered to pay back over £1.1 million within three months or face 12 more years in jail.
  • In March 2022, Kavanagh was sentenced for masterminding a £30 million drug operation, followed by a six-year sentence last year for plotting to mislead NCA officers, court records say.
  • Among seized items, a 50% share in his 'fortified family mansion' in Tamworth was described by the NCA, along with £150,000 of high-end bags, clothes and accessories, highlighting the asset recovery effort.
  • Kay Mellor, head of operations at the NCA, said `Kavanagh and Vickery will be behind bars for many years to come and now have to pay back more than £1 million to the state`, underscoring law enforcement's continuing crackdown on organised crime.
  • Looking ahead, prosecutors will return to court to seek additional sentences if orders aren’t paid, Adrian Foster said, emphasizing ongoing enforcement efforts.
