Last year, according to the "Construction Monitor", almost 85,000 apartments were built less than 2023, with consequences for the entire economy.
Germany would need 300,000 new apartments in the year. In fact, however, much less is added and so there is a need. In the meantime, according to a study, the housing shortage itself causes economic damage.
Germany is estimated to be short approximately 1.35 million apartments. This is according to the new "Construction Monitor 2026," compiled by the Pestel Institute on behalf of the German Association of Building Material Retailers (BDB), and reported on by the "Rheinische Post" (Wednesday edition).
