A capital-gains tax in box 3 will take effect as early as 2028, political sources told NOS. It is also now allegedly set to apply to thousands more investors and savers than currently, to which politicians reacted with caution. The sources have also reportedly confirmed to NOS that the planned social security cuts have also been scrapped.
The Cabinet is removing the cuts to disability and unemployment benefits from the books for this year. A social agreement must be reached with employers and trade unions to reform those benefits. Furthermore, the Cabinet wants wealth tax to be levied in 2028 when profits have been distributed, instead of profits being taxed on paper.
