Drawing on own experience, PM Jetten urges young LGBTQIA+ people to come out openly
Dutch Premier Rob Jetten on Saturday encouraged young LGBTQIA+ people to come out openly, drawing on his own teenage experiences. He made the statement as he attended preparations for Amsterdam’s Canal Parade late morning on Saturday. It remained unclear whether Jetten himself would join the parade on the canals.
At a World Pride marked by the attack in Berlin, the arrival of Madonna, and a spontaneous visit by Prime Minister Jetten, this Canal Parade was also simply a time of proud celebration. Choreographed dances, latex outfits, and swinging soldiers; it was all on display from the new, large grandstand on the Prinsengracht. Here you can see the AT5 compilation of the 2026 Canal Parade, presented by Fabiënne Mucuk and Mirjam Eeken.
