This 5-year-old leukemia survivor loves to camp, so Make-A-Wish surprised his family with a camper
Make-A-Wish and Camping World of Savannah said the camper will help George Handley, cancer-free since May 2025, travel with his five siblings and family.
On Thursday, Make-A-Wish and Camping World of Savannah gifted a camper to 5-year-old leukemia survivor George Handley in Pooler, Georgia, granting his wish to spend time with his family.
George was diagnosed with leukemia in December 2022 at two-and-a-half years old, enduring pneumonia, COVID-19, and a three-week medically induced coma before being declared cancer-free in May of last year.
Camping World of Savannah customized the camper with George's favorite Ghost Pirates and Georgia Bulldogs gear; general manager Bryan Clark said, "Anytime we can kind of help and give back to the community, we absolutely love it."
"It means exciting adventures together," mother Jennifer Handley said, noting the camper allows the family to reunite after years of hospitalizations that often kept George apart from his brothers.
Craig Harris, a Make-A-Wish volunteer, explained the camper was a perfect fit because George has five siblings, stating, "The reason he chose the camper is he's got five siblings and his mom and grandmother.
