The BJP hosted a large-scale Pongal event with 1,008 pots of sweet Pongal and political discussions involving AIADMK leader S.P. Velumani, marking the harvest season.
- On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the BJP's `Namma Ooru Modi Pongal` celebration at Mannarpuram military ground, Tiruchi, where 1,008 pots were placed to prepare sweet Pongal.
- The visit formed part of a two-day trip that included worship at Sri Jambukeswarar Akilandeswari Temple, Tiruvanaikoil, and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam before the Pongal celebrations.
- Senior leaders attended the event including Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and L. Murugan, BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran, former presidents K. Annamalai and Pon. Radhakrishnan, and local leaders Tamilisai Soundarajan, Vanathi Srinivasan, and Karuppu Muruganantham.
- Declaring the alliance plan, Shah said the NDA government would form in Tamil Nadu in the 2026 Assembly elections and BJP is ready to lead a strong alliance with AIADMK against DMK and Congress.
- For the second consecutive day, AIADMK senior leader S.P. Velumani met Shah to discuss the political environment, and Shah left for Delhi by a BSF special aircraft from Tiruchi airport .
