Responding to the arrests of Mersin mayors Vahap Seçer, Abdullah Özyiğit, and Ahmet Serkan Tuncer, Murat Emir, the Deputy Group Chairman of the NEW Party, said, "We will not surrender the will of those elected by millions to behind-the-scenes operations."
Arrested Mezitli Mayor Ahmet Serkan Tuncer stated in a press release that the process against him was based on false statements and secret witness testimonies. Tuncer said, "History will prove us right."
CHP Group Deputy Chairman and Balıkesir MP Serkan Sarı reacted to the arrest of the three mayors with a statement on his social media account. Sarı stated that the mayors should be tried without being detained.
Tanrıkulu, a member of the New Party, strongly reacted to the arrests of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer and the mayors of Yenişehir and Mezitli.
