Fauci’s Wife Responds With Profane Message After Husband Faces Contempt Vote
The committee voted 8 to 7 along party lines after Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times during questioning.
On Thursday, a Senate committee led by Sen. Rand Paul voted 8 to 7 to hold Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress, alleging he obstructed oversight by refusing to answer questions during a recent hearing.
Fauci, the former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases , invoked his Fifth Amendment rights 111 times, stating his legal counsel advised that answers to GOP questioning could be twisted for weaponized prosecution.
Paul accused Fauci of funding Chinese research that may have created the virus, a claim lacking evidence, while Fauci accused Paul of having an "unhinged obsession" with him during testimony.
Hours after the vote, Fauci's wife and Georgetown University colleague Christine Grady was photographed outside their Washington home, where she flipped off the camera before driving away.
The committee's vote will be submitted directly to the Justice Department for potential prosecution, bypassing a full Senate vote, as the contempt effort passed strictly along party lines.
