About 500 protesters gathered peacefully in Los Angeles to demand accountability after a Border Patrol agent fatally shot Alex Pretti, who was armed during a targeted operation.
- On Saturday, Alex Pretti, 37-year-old ICU nurse and Minneapolis VA worker, was shot and killed in Minneapolis after allegedly approaching U.S. Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm handgun, DHS said.
- Earlier this month, protests began after the Jan 7 killing of Renee Good, 37, with Southern California Democrats organizing Los Angeles vigils and marches in response.
- DHS said, `At 9:05 AM CT, as DHS law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault, an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun` and medics pronounced the suspect dead with 2 magazines and no ID.
- Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass demanded removal of armed federal forces, while Governor Gavin Newsom called for `No new funding. Greg Bovino must be FIRED`.
- A peaceful LA demonstration began at Mariachi Plaza with about 500 people who marched to the Federal Building, while the Los Angeles County Republican Party urged caution and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said officials should lead the investigation.
