There have been more than 340 mass shootings so far in 2026

More than 320 people have been killed and over 1,440 injured, and the year is on track to be the sixth worst since 2014.

  • As of Sept. 24, there have been 343 mass shootings across the U.S., according to a Get The Facts Data Team analysis of Gun Violence Archive data provided by the Gun Violence Data Hub.
  • While 2026 shootings increased by about 8% compared to 2025, the nation has avoided the high mass casualty numbers that plagued the early post-COVID-19 pandemic years.
  • Spanning 40 states and Washington, the shootings resulted in more than 320 deaths and more than 1,440 injuries, with Texas leading at 37 incidents and California, Illinois, and Louisiana each reporting 20.
  • Domestic violence incidents marked the two deadliest shootings this year: in Shreveport, Louisiana, eight children were killed in April, and in Billings, Montana, a man killed eight relatives including four children in August.
  • Thursday marks the nine-year anniversary of the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, when a gunman opened fire on an outdoor music festival in Las Vegas on Oct. 1, 2017, killing 60 people and injuring more than 430 others.
