Despite record growth in the expansion of renewable energies, countries around the world are not moving fast enough to achieve their own goals, as shown by an interim review by the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena).

Despite achieving historic levels of renewable energy installation in 2024, the world is still far from meeting the ambitious climate goals agreed at COP28, warns a new report presented Tuesday by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Brazilian COP30 Presidency, and the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
The newly installed power from renewable energies such as sun, wind and hydropower was around 582 gigawatts in 2024 - a record and an increase of about 15 percent compared to the previous year. However, this is not enough.
