The White Plague Is Taking Its Toll - This Year Has the Fewest Babies in Serbia's Recent History

Between January and August 2025, fewer babies were born than in the same period last year, when the birth rate in Serbia was at a record low. Gordana Bjelobrk from the Republic Statistical Office explains that the indicators show that there are no grounds for improving the birth rate. Psychotherapist Martina Šmitran says that the value systems of older and younger generations are not the same, that newer generations are more individualistic.
