A McKinsey and SEMI Foundation report finds the US semiconductor industry could be short 157,000 workers by 2030, with only 3% of engineering graduates entering chipmaking. Companies like Micron and Samsung are now offering bonuses worth months of salary just to keep the staff they already have.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence has led not only to a shortage of processors and memory chips, but also to a shortage of specialized equipment for their production.
