The United States has sent more than 500 immigrants to African countries since the country’s president, Donald Trump, returned to the White House in January 2025. The vast majority of those deported are people without any connection to the country of destination and are exposed to new human rights violations, as well as the risk of being returned to their countries of origin, where some are at risk of persecution and even death. The NGO accuses the US authorities of having deprived these migrants of their right to due process, several of them having been unable to notify their lawyers or deported without knowing their destination.
Human Rights Watch (HRW) today denounced the United States for sending more than 500 people unable to return to their countries to third States, urging the US authorities to stop the deportations of immigrants to these locations.
