The familiar seascape has completely changed in the last ten years. Reclamation work has been underway along the Henoko coast in Nago City since 2015. Looking at the new base construction site surrounded by seawalls from Henoko Fishing Port, the towering mounds of land are striking. The reefs that once existed are buried beneath, and the terns that used to migrate here from spring to summer are no longer seen.
