In just one month, the European Union has finalized trade agreements with India and Mercosur after two decades of negotiations marked by little progress and prolonged periods of stagnation. With these agreements, the European bloc is sending a clear signal of integration in response to an increasingly uncertain and fragmented international economic order. Giving the final push to both pacts was primarily a political decision by Brussels.
