Most popular boys' and girls' names of 2024 revealed

ENGLAND AND WALES, JUL 31 – Muhammad ranked first with 5,721 boys named in 2024, with two other spellings also in the top 100, showing sustained popularity for nearly a decade, ONS data reveals.

  • The Office for National Statistics released the 2024 list of most popular baby names in England and Wales, with Muhammad leading for boys and Olivia for girls.
  • Muhammad maintained the top boys’ name for the second consecutive year, having been in the top 10 since 2016, while Olivia stayed in the girls’ top three since 2006.
  • The top 100 boys’ names included Muhammad in three different spellings: Muhammad was the most popular with 5,721 boys, followed by Mohammed with 1,760, and Mohammad with 986. Meanwhile, Olivia and Amelia once again occupied the top two positions for girls.
