The signing of a provisional framework agreement between the United States and Iran, designed to put an end to hostilities in the Middle East, opens a 60-day diplomatic window for a lasting peace. Armistice, however, is viewed with scepticism. "With the Tehran regime it is all possible and with a Donald Trump so unpredictable we will have enough surprises," warns journalist Deutsche Welle (DW), Alina Kühnel.
The agreement reached between the United States and Iran to begin ending the war involved no handshake, no solemn photo op, and no signing ceremony in a room draped with flags. It came via a memorandum delivered remotely, a ceremony in Switzerland that was omitted from an official announcement, and a Pakistani foreign minister who continued negotiating after injuring himself during a diplomatic reception.
