An artist who became a sergeant explains how he came to join the Azov regiment in Ukraine. He and others provide insight into the work of the country's most controversial military unit and reject accusations of links to far-right groups. It used to be that anyone who could lift a gun was accepted into the unit. As soon as the unit was incorporated into the National Guard, political ideals had to give way.
