Skerries Road Race Called Off After Rider Is Killed During a Race
Officials halted racing after a man in his 50s died in a single-bike collision, and forensic investigators are examining the scene.
On Sunday, the Skerries 100 race in Co Dublin was abandoned after a rider in his 50s died in a single-motorcycle collision at Duke's Bend, Baldongan, during the Junior Support race.
The Skerries 100 returned this year after a four-year hiatus linked to rising insurance costs, marking its first fatality since Antrim rider William Dunlop died in 2018.
This incident marks the third death at an Irish motorcycle race this year, following Cork rider James Walsh's fatal crash at the Tandragee 100 in Co Armagh last Friday.
Gardaí and Forensic Collision Investigators are examining the scene, while the Loughshinny Motorcycle Supporters Club stated it 'regrets to announce a competitor has sadly passed away.'
Motorcycling Ireland asked the public to 'refrain from speculation' and respect the rider's family until officials provide updates once next of kin has been informed.
