The detention period for the nine suspects arrested in connection with the passenger ship sinking off the coast of Kyrenia in Northern Cyprus has been extended by seven days. The death toll from the accident has risen to 18, while 10 people are reported missing.

In the Filo Jet disaster off Girne in Northern Cyprus on August 30, which killed 18 people, it was stated that some watertight doors were open. Police said that if the doors had been closed, the ship would have taken on less water, and the chances of survival would have been higher; 9 suspects were given an additional 7 days of detention.
