A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck off Japan’s east coast near Honshu on Sunday, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said, with the tremor recorded at a depth of 78 km (48.5 miles).
The German Center for Research on Earth reported, on Saturday evening, that an earthquake of 5.8 degrees shook an area near the eastern coast of Japan's island. The Center pointed out that the earthquake was 78 kilometres deep.
