Latvia's parliament has adopted new rules to limit the circumstances in which public broadcasters can produce Russian-language content.
Content in Russian may only be created during an emergency or state of emergency or to purposefully refute misinformation that threatens Latvia's democracy or security.

The Latvian Parliament decided on Thursday that Russian-language content may only be published in public media in exceptional cases, such as in an emergency situation and to refute disinformation that threatens the Latvian state.
As of 1 January 2027, there will be no more content in the public media of Latvia (LSM), except for isolated cases, which the Sejm has defined in the law just adopted, but even then the decision will be taken on each case separately, confirmed by LSM board member Ieva Ayle.
