This September, Torrevieja’s salinera started collecting a harvest that expects to be around 500,000 tons, while it has another 350,000 stored in the garberas, the large white mountains of salt that define the landscape of industrial exploitation. The engineer director of the Nueva Compañía Arlendataria de las Salinas (NCAST), Joseph Pérez, points out that the salt that is estimated for the international market will be around 250,000 tons.
