King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark Attend a Private Memorial Service for the Queen’s Late Father
The couple attended a private service for Queen Mary’s father, John Donaldson, whose death was announced after his health declined in recent years.
King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark traveled to Tasmania this week to attend a private memorial service for the Queen's late father, John Donaldson, as confirmed by the Danish Royal Court.
John Donaldson, a Scottish-born professor of applied mathematics, died in Hobart on April 11 at 84, with his health declining for several years before his passing.
"My heart is heavy, and my thoughts are grey," Queen Mary wrote in tribute, following the couple's recent travel to Norway for King Harald V's funeral.
During the couple's absence from Denmark, their 20-year-old son Crown Prince Christian is serving as regent, a role he frequently assumes while his parents are abroad.
Donaldson emigrated from Scotland to Australia in 1963 with his first wife, Henrietta Clark Horne, and later gained prominence among Danish audiences for walking the Queen down the aisle in 2004.
