A German-American couple who locked their children in a Spanish house for years out of fear of the coronavirus has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. The parents are accused of mental abuse, unlawful deprivation of liberty, and neglect. The prosecution is also seeking €15,000 in damages per child and the termination of parental authority.
Three children from Germany were apparently not allowed to leave a trashed house in Spain for years. The prosecutor's office demands long sentences for their parents – because of psychological violence and deprivation of liberty.
They are also prohibited from approaching minors by any means for the duration of their sentence, and must also compensate each minor with 15,000 euros for moral damage. Read
The defendants, by mutual agreement, failed to comply with their protection duties towards their children and deprived them of their educational, health, emotional and social needs.
The children were isolated from the outside world to the extent that they did not know any family members and their only reference were the parents. They walked bent, never went to school and the last time they went to a medical consultation was in 2019.
The Public Prosecutor's Office requests that each of the children's parents be sentenced to a total of 25 years and 4 months in prison for the crimes of habitual physical violence and illegal detention.
