The Planning Agency will be closed down and its tasks transferred to the Housing and Civil Engineering Agency (HMS) after the Althingi approved a bill to that effect today. The stated goal of the law is to simplify administration and streamline state operations, but the explanatory memorandum to the bill estimates that around 80 million per year will be saved by the merger.
