The operations in the Sheikh Maqsoud area of Aleppo are ending, the Syrian military says, according to state media.
The Syrian army confirmed that the operation to completely clear the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood ended Saturday morning, coinciding with reports of gunfire and explosions within the neighborhood, resulting from clashes and the detonation of weapons, following intense fighting with heavy weapons during the previous night.
The Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods, which were said to remain impassable for months, were brought under control in four days. Following the operation, which the Syrian Army conducted while also respecting civilian safety, the army withdrew from the neighborhoods and handed them over to security forces.
The Syrian armed forces announced on Saturday the completion of operations in the city of Aleppo after the Sheikh Maksoud cartel had been stolen, the last zone controlled by the Kurdish groups.
