The NWSL's Portland Thorns and the WNBA's Portland Fire have a luxe new training facility
The first purpose-built training campus for two professional women’s teams includes recovery, parenting and wellness spaces, owners said.
On Friday, August 21, 2026, the $150 million Kaiser Permanente Performance Center opened in Hillsboro, Oregon, serving as a joint training facility for the NWSL's Portland Thorns and the WNBA's Portland Fire.
Previously, the Thorns trained at Providence Park while the Portland Fire practiced at Portland State University; owners repurposed a former Nike office complex to create this 12-acre campus.
The 12-acre campus features a 17,000-square-foot gymnasium, Pilates studio, and underwater treadmill, with nursing rooms and a nursery for player-parents addressing athlete needs.
Raj Sports owners Lisa Bhathal Merage and Alex Bhathal designed the center as a blueprint for future performance facilities, with the opening coinciding with Nike's "Epicenter Week."
Thorns players Sophia Wilson and Morgan Weaver helped select facility finishes; Lisa Bhathal Merage described the trophy case as "soon to be filled," signaling ambitions for championships.
